We’re leaving for Hawaii in a few days to celebrate our sixth anniversary and I could not be more excited. We’ve both had a whirlwind few months with our work, home, and friends, and are in major need of some relaxation. David has been to Oahu a couple of times but has never been to Maui, and I haven’t been since I was a teenager, so we both can’t wait to explore together. As I’m frantically trying to finish up my work this weekend and pack before we leave, I thought I would share a few things that are going in my suitcase for Hawaii.
I’ve heard of this stuff for years and never made the investment to buy it for myself until recently because to be totally honest, I didn’t see the purpose of a $20 lip balm. I have seen the light and been converted though because this is my favorite lip product I have ever used. It’s the perfect balance of color and moisture without ever feeling sticky. My favorite shade is ‘tulip’ and it’s going to be my go-to for Hawaii.
No one wants to take the time to do their hair after a long day at the beach, ergo, the straw hat. These are a summer staple for me, and even more so when I’m on vacation. I learned a few years ago that if you pack them with a beach towel packed inside the head cavity, they won’t get messed up in your suitcase.
Sunscreen always feels a bit like a no brainer (unless you’ve been living under a rock and somehow missing all those skin cancer warnings), but I love using an aftersun spray. Aftersun spray normally has aloe vera and other soothing things in it to keep skin hydrated.
What can I say? I’ve been rocking heart sunnies like every other basic out there and have ZERO shame.
-Jenny Han Books
If you’re looking for the ultimate summer read, grab any of Jenny Han’s books. She writes worlds that you want to curl up in and live in for a while, which is one of the many reasons she’s my favorite author.
Because how else am I going to take my sunscreen and Jenny Han books and alcohol to the beach?
When I’m on any vacation, I steer towards packing light dresses – like this one, this one or this one. It’s an easy outfit, that can also double as a swim cover.
-High Waisted Swimwear
Anytime I’m going anywhere that there’s waves/hiking, I always opt for a high waisted swim option. It’s more comfortable, and just feels more secure, so I don’t have to worry about wardrobe malfunctions.
