Close to Home Adventures: A Fort Worth Date Night

David and I reside in a suburb of Dallas, and for our weekly date night, decided to make the hour trip to Fort Worth, to see what it had to offer us. Whenever I thought of Fort Worth, I stereotyped it with stockyards and giant cowboy hats, but was pleasantly surprised that the downtown area we encountered seemed full of restaurants and shops with character and backstory. We found a charming, eclectic gastropub/coffee shop hybrid, and an old school, vintage drive-in movie for our date, and it was one of the best nights close to home we’ve had in a long time.

BREWED was a coffee shop/gastropub with the slogan ‘the local’s living room’, printed on their door front, and their interior fully lived up to their catch phrase. BREWED was full of mix-matched furniture, hanging lights, people working, reading, talking, and even a game room. David and I instantly fell in love with the atmosphere of BREWED, and had high hopes for our meal. We ordered the goat cheese queso, duck fat sweet potato fries, pork sliders, s’mores in a jar, and coffee. The goat cheese queso was fantastic — if I could have had a bigger portion and just eaten it as a meal I would have. The sliders and the fries were just okay — nothing to write home about, but not bad. The real standout though was the s’mores in a jar and the coffee. The cappuccino was one of the best I’ve had, and David said his brewed coffee was great too. They even have a place where you can add a ‘love lock’, like the famous love lock bridges in Paris. Our recommendation is to go to BREWED for coffee and dessert, and maybe eat dinner elsewhere, or just grab a light snack while there.

We headed to Coyote Drive-In theater next, which after our experience there, has become one of our favorite spots in the DFW area, and we are already trying to plan the next time that we can go back. Coyote has three outdoor movie screens, and you pay one price for admission to a double feature. We chose a screen that was showing ’22 Jump Street’ first, and then ‘The Fault in Our Stars’. You tune in to a radio station to hear the movie playing through your car’s speakers. As well as being a great movie experience, Coyote also had a really great concession area, with several food trucks as well as the normal movie fare of soda and popcorn. This place is a date night must.
