How We Road Trip Across Europe

There’s nothing I love more than a good road trip. They were the first trips David and I ever took, when we were in college, and incredibly broke, and the thought of flying somewhere was financially out of the question. I fell in love with the road trip – we would hit up diners for breakfast, and listen to Harry Potter audio books all night. It’s no surprise, that when I started planning a trip to Europe, I wanted to challenge the idea that you had to take a train, or fly, between all your destinations. What I’ve learned, on my past two trips to Europe, will change the way we travel forever.

-Driving is cheaper
Last summer, when we priced out the difference between train tickets for both of us to travel between several countries, and renting a car through AutoEurope – and renting a car was almost half the cost. If there’s more than one of you, and you’re looking to save money, you should definitely consider driving.

-Driving gives you flexibility
There are several moments on the road, that we wouldn’t have been able to have, if not for driving. For example, we decided to take a spontaneous trip to Colmar on our last trip – we didn’t have to consult train schedules, we were just able to do it. It ended up being the highlight of our trip. On another trip, we were able to pull over, and spend an hour frolicking in a field of wildflowers, just because we felt like it – this is what you’re going to Europe for, and you can’t do it on a train.

-Who we recommend
We love working with AutoEurope. This is our second time renting with AutoEurope, and they’re fantastic. You’re able to choose between a manual and automatic transmission, which is great for Americans, and the prices are so reasonable. They also have multiple pick-up and drop-off locations, including airport locations, and city locations, which makes it a breeze.

Driving to multiple countries in Europe is one of our favorite trips we take (try all the gas station espresso, trust me), and we’re grateful for AutoEurope for making it so easy.

A huge thank you to AutoEurope, for sponsoring this post.
