A Few of Our Favorite Things: Las Vegas

I’m going to be straight with you — David and I are not the end-all of knowledge on Las Vegas. We aren’t exactly partiers, and by “aren’t exactly”, I mean not at all. If you’re looking for a blog that is going to tell you about all the hot clubs you can hit, you should stop reading now. I’m not sure I would have any idea how to behave at a club, or how to not feel completely awkward. This is a blog for those who want to do Vegas without doing the stereotypical Vegas things. If you want to figure out where the 24/7 wedding chapels are, check google. We, however, wish to inform you of our favorite activities for people that would not consider themselves ‘Vegas people’. And the best part about our list, is that it doesn’t involve losing a ton of money on the slot machines. (you also won’t win any money with our list, but you can’t have everything)

1) The Fountains at the Bellagio
This is classic Las Vegas. These fountains in front of the Bellagio are coordinated to music, and dance every half hour during the day, and every fifteen minutes at night. If you’re familiar with our blog at all, you know that David and I love fountains; these were no exception. Our favorite viewing spot was closest to the doors of the Bellagio’s lobby, where you can get a view of the fountains in front of the Eiffel tower replica and the strip.

2) The Chandelier, The Cosmopolitan
So the chandelier is exactly what is sounds like – it’s a three story chandelier inside of the Cosmopolitan hotel. It’s huge, gorgeous, and has three different bars and lounge areas inside of it. The light constantly changes throughout the day, turning the chandelier different colors.

3) The Conservatory, The Bellagio
Man, we’re back on the Bellagio again. They have all the cool stuff. The conservatory is an indoor botanical garden, elaborately themed to fit whichever season it might be during your visit. We were there during October, and the conservatory went all-out for autumn. Go at night, when they light up all the displays — it’s a way better experience.

4) Britney Spears: Piece of Me
This isn’t even remotely inexpensive, but if you’re going to see a show in Vegas, we’re going to pitch this one. I unashamedly love Britney Spears, and this show was fantastic. She did twenty songs, and while some might say she is no longer is her prime, you’re not gonna be able to see this 90s pop legend forever. How are you going to feel when you live in a world where seeing Britney Spears is no longer an option? Take advantage of this show while you can.

5) The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian
As someone who has actually been to Italy, and loved it, I was skeptical if anything in Vegas could even remotely look like Venice. The Grand Canal has been wonderfully done — even if you don’t want to pay to ride in one of the Gondolas, just going and looking around is a great experience.

6) Sambalatte
If you read our blog, it should come as no surprise that David and I not only love coffee, but need it as a core part of our survival. It’s the bottom of our food pyramid, and the happy place that makes us stable, functioning people. We hadn’t heard great things about the coffee scene in Vegas, and weren’t expecting to find anything fantastic. We stumbled upon Sambalatte by complete chance — a happy coincidence of fate, as this haven of caffeine fulfilled our cortado needs for the rest of our trip. They roast their own beans on site, and they have the best croissants I have ever tasted outside of Europe.

7) Mundo
We wouldn’t be the foodies that we are without mentioning our favorite restaurant of the moment, now would we? YOU HAVE TO GO TO MUNDO. And you have to tell me about it, and I’m going to burn with jealousy. It is that good. Mundo is a billed as authentic latin inspired food, but there’s enough familiar tex-mex on the menu to keep the pickiest eaters happy. Do your taste buds the biggest favor of the year and get the elote (street style corn) and the goat cheese queso. Sit back, eat, enjoy the hanging lanterns, and your new favorite eatery. Yes, I am accepting thank you letters.

So these are our favorite things to do in Vegas, for people that aren’t really ‘Vegas’ people. But like always, we’re going to encourage you to get our there and do you’re own research, find your own favorite places, and make your own memories! No matter what city you’re in, life is waiting to be lived, and explored. Go enjoy today!
